Dorothy Ann (Cody) Yancey was born July 16, 1926, in Ames, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas Tony and Elsie Mae (Osborne) Cody.  She grew up and received her education in Ames.  Dorothy was united in marriage to Claude (Ray) Harrelson.  The couple made their home in Nevada and was blessed with five children.  Ray passed away in 1978.  Dorothy later married Ervin Yancey and, following his death in 1999, made her home in Ames.

Over the years, Dorothy worked at several Nevada businesses, including Donnelley Marketing, Nevada Poultry, Rolling Green Village, and the Story County Hospital.  She enjoyed playing Bingo, listening to country western music, word search puzzles, camping, and bowling.  Dorothy will be remembered as a woman who loved socializing and was always available to lend a helping hand to family and friends.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Ames as well as Westside Church of Christ in Ames.

Survivors include her five children, Raymond “Dennis” (Karen) Harrelson of Cambridge, Claudia (Michael) Conrad of Monett, MO, Ruth Willson of Ames, Randy (Marianne) Harrelson of Nevada, and Karla (Scott) Gealow of Pinson, AL; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by a brother, William (Jackie) Cody of West Union; a sister, Helen Helgeland of Ames; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

In addition to her husbands, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Frederick “Bud” Cody; and three sisters, Opal Fisher, Ruth Cody, and Evelyn Cody.

Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Dorothy and her family.
