Phyllis M. Foster, age 95, of Nevada, Iowa, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at Rolling Green Village Care Center in Nevada.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 1, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada, with Pastor Chris Waddle officiating. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery followed by a light luncheon back at the church.
Phyllis was born on June 16, 1921, on the Shipley Road family farm south of Nevada to Leslie and Vera (Stratton) McBride. Phyllis grew up in Nevada, spending the majority of her life there. On October 24, 1942, she was united in marriage to Robert R. Foster in Columbus, Indiana.
Phyllis retired from Sundstrand in 1984. She loved all sports, especially when it involved a Nevada school team or the Iowa State Cyclones.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; and a daughter-in-law, Tonda Foster.
Survivors include two sons, Rod (Barb) Foster of Bloomington, MN, and Rick Foster of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren, Theresa (Mark) Foster, Jennifer (Brian) Lord, James (Kelly) Foster, Brandon Calvert, Jennifer Bertram, and Jessica Bertram; and five great-grandchildren, Lee, Benjamin, Andrew, William, and Connor.
Memorials in Phyllis’ name may be made to First United Methodist Church, 1036 7th Street, Nevada, IA 50201.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Phyllis and her family.

“Rick & Rod I send my heartfelt sympathy to you. I was thinking about your Mom and Keith Christy the other day and all the wonderful visits they had with my parents here in Burkburnett, TX. I came home June 2014 to bury my parents' ashes and stopped by your Mom's home but no one was there. Then I was home this summer and I would have stopped by to see your Mom if I had known she was in the nursing home. Beautiful memories of your parents' friendship with my parents will always be cherished. And Rick I also send my condolences in the loss of your wife. I lost my husband in 2015 so I can understand your depths of grief. My love to you both, Muggins ”

“I got to know Phyllis at the doctor's office. I spent quite a bit of time visiting with Phyllis & really enjoyed it. She was so very proud of you boys, her grandchildren & her greats. I used to ask her to bring me photos so I could see how cute they were. She was from my mom's generation, & they were truly special ladies. We just lost a good one. Loved you, Phyllis.”

“Rick and Rod, I was so shocked to get a notice from Ryan's that your mom has passed away. We had some really good times together. I did not know until recently that she was at Rolling Green, or I would have gone to visit her. She was a special lady and friend. I called Phyllis Webb and she was going to let Richard know. I thought you were probably calling him anyway.(1-515-233-1132) She was as shocked as I was. Rick, you've had a double whammy with the death of Tonda too.. “My cousin, Richard Webb just emailed me about the death of your Mom. She was one of my first cousins and was always a "favorite". Enjoyed many good visits with her and her "gift of hospitality." My Mother was Lola McBride Johnston and Uncle Les and Mother were born 2 years apart, Uncle Les was 2 years older than Mother. Wish I could join you for the funeral. We have gone to church with your Mom
many times. Our heart felt sympathy goes to Rod and Rick and your families. She was so proud of all of you.
