Donovan K. Scheevel, age 83, of Story City and formerly of Nevada, Iowa, died Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at the Colo Cemetery in Colo, with Pastor Cecil Lackore officiating.  Memorial visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada.

Born September 2, 1933, on the family farm in Fillmore County, Minnesota, Donovan Keith Scheevel was the son of Henry and Elsie (Vrieze) Scheevel.

Donovan was united in marriage to Katharine Frances O’Rourke on February 15, 1958, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley, Minnesota.  The couple was blessed with three daughters, Donnette, Linda, and Janice.

Donovan was a jack-of-all-trades who worked at various jobs throughout his life.  He farmed for a time and later worked at Sunstrand in Ames until his retirement.  He also worked at Ryerson’s in Nevada as well as at the car wash and as a handyman.  Donovan was a practical joker and enjoyed collecting John Deere memorabilia.  He was a member of the Colo United Methodist Church, serving in earlier years as Youth Leader and also on the Colo City Council.  He and Kathy made many happy memories traveling in their retirement years.

Survivors include three daughters, Donnette (Christopher) Williams of Ames, Linda (Kevin) Torgeson of Radcliffe, and Janice (Charles Jr.) Hamons of Chattanooga, TN; three grandchildren, Lisa (Kevin) Brown, and Katelynn and Ryan Hamons; and a great-granddaughter, Lyla Brown.  He is also survived by two sisters, June Gansen of Rochester, MN, and Elsie Mae (Ken) Holm of Byron, MN; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his wife Katharine in 2014; his parents; and three sisters, Lucille Scheevel, Genevieve Scheevel, and Carolyn Goodman.

Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Donovan and his family.
