Frances B. Hoffer, age 102, of Nevada, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada, with Pastor Chris Waddle officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2016, at Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada.
Born July 29, 1914, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Frances Beatrice (Moore) Hoffer was the daughter of Frank and Beatrice (Sanborn) Moore. She grew up in Aberdeen where she graduated from high school and attended Northern State College for two years.
On October 14, 1934, Frances was united in marriage to Michael John Hoffer in Aberdeen. The couple made their home in Nevada and was blessed with one daughter, Elinor Frances.
Frances was employed for over 30 years at Donnelley Marketing in Nevada, retiring as a supervisor in 1979. In 2014, at the age of 100, she delighted in attending the All-Company Reunion of the long-standing Nevada business.
Frances was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada. She also participated in Eastern Star and was a lifelong member of Indian Creek Country Club in Nevada. Her interests were varied and included playing bridge, watching sports, cooking and baking, and fishing in Minnesota. She had a knack for crafting and particularly enjoyed making Christmas decorations.
Survivors include her daughter, Elinor (Ron) Hobbs of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Kevin Hobbs of Johnston, and Julie (Steven Rouse) Hobbs of Lexington, KY; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Max, and Rebecca Frances; a niece, Joy (Berj) Moore of California; and a nephew, Gene (Joanne) Moore of Arizona.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband Michael in 2002; her parents; and two brothers, Ralph Moore and Raymond Moore.
A memorial fund has been established in Frances' name.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Frances and her family.
