From: Nevada, IA

Lola Mae Anderson, age 88, of Nevada, passed peacefully Tuesday, November 20, 2018, with her family by her side, reuniting her with Marley, her beloved husband of 62 years.

Lola was born on December 29, 1929, in Story County, Iowa, to Ward and Gladys (Osmundson) Tjelmeland. Lola was united in marriage to Marley Anderson on December 3, 1949, in Roland, Iowa. She was a lifelong resident of Story County where she devoted her life to raising their six children. Lola was an active member of Memorial Lutheran Church and the community and served on many various committees and groups including Martha Circle, Care Groups, Sunday School teacher, Bulletin Committee, 4-H, youth soccer coach, American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, 500 Club and various bridge clubs.

Her faith and her family were foremost in Lola’s life. She relished a home full of family and friends, where a plate full of her famous Kringla was being passed around, and rocking a child or two in her lap while she sang them a song. Lola Mae- devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend- you will be missed and forever loved. A large piece of your faith, love, and devotion will remain and live on in the lives you touched.

Lola is survived by her six children, Rhonda (Dale) Thompson of Ephrata, PA, Shelley Ludeman of Nevada, IA, Robin (Jack) Robertson of Prior Lake, MN, Brett Anderson of Nevada, IA, Signa (Mark) Morgan of Cincinnati, OH, and Bryce Anderson (Amy Reschly) of Jefferson, GA; 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren with two additional blessings expected soon; a brother, Gordan (Susan) Tjelmeland of Clive, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son-in-law, LaVern Ludeman; seven brothers, Harold, Leo, Wallace, Wayne, Gary, Joel, and Keith Tjelmeland; and a sister, Delores Campbell.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, with Pastor Myron Herzberg officiating.  Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 5-7 p.m.  Burial will be in the Roland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lola’s name may be directed to the family.  Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Lola and her family.

“Rhonda, Dale & the Anderson Family.
Your're mother was a pillar of strength in your family and to many others, Remembering the good times with the card club and the picnics(remember the bumble bees?). She was always Mrs. Anderson to me, she deserved that respect. She was larger than life,, gave the best hugs and always had a way of simplifying life's problems. Her faith will serve her well, am sure the club is now back in action. Reflect on the good times, lean on her values and just know she was a good sole, a great mother, she filled in all the blanks. Please know our thoughts and condolences are with all of you.

Kind regards,

Steve & Deb Erickson”

“Another angel passes on. She was quite a lady. No matter where we seen her she always made sure to come say hello and ask how the family was doing. Prayers to her family for guidance through this sad time and to remember all of the joyous times they have shared with her.”

“Dearest Rhonda n Family, even though your Mom moved to a continuous life with your dad, her strength, love, compassion ,unity will continue through the forth coming years. These was one of many values she gave her children and was passed down to her grandchildren and soon if not already to her great grandchildren. Treasure those memories as you look at the farm for they are everywhere. Godspeed Lola , your family will be alright. Love you Ron... Candy n Ken”

“To the friends and wonderful family of Lola Mae Tjelmeland Anderson,
It is a very sad day to see that Lola Mae has passed from our presents, She has always been such a strong pillar of anything she was involved in and without doubt the matriarch of her family. She will be royally missed by all those whom she touched in life and welcomed by those who preceded her in death! As a member of our outstanding Class of 1947 at Milford Twp she had continued to be very proud of all the opportunities and experiences gained from our small rural Iowa community and school. We will miss her attendance at our Milford Twp Reunions! May a candle remind us of the faith, warmth, and love she offered to all in memories and blessing. My love, prayers, and God's Peace be with each of you.
I will honor Lola Mae with a tribute to the Iowa 4-H Foundation. The Tjelmeland's were our neighbors and as a co-author of the book, Milford Twp And Proud of It!, she was the epitome of type of people we where so proud to be a part of in Milford Twp. Respectfully remembered, Jurine Borton Moore (& co-author, Dale Hughes and brother, Art Borton)”
