Daniel Hapes, age 39, of Hampton and formerly of Colo, died at his home on Wednesday, May 10, 2017.
A Celebration of Daniel’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2017, at Colo Central Park in Colo. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Iowa Center, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Daniel’s name may be directed to the family at 603 4th Street, Colo, IA 50056.
Born February 26, 1978, in Ames, Iowa, Daniel Patrick Hapes was the son of Dennis and Paula (Mayfield) Hapes, Sr. He grew up in Story County and received his education in Colo.
Daniel was proficient with computers and enjoyed cars, tinkering, camping, and spending time with his children. Most recently, he made his home in Hampton where he was employed as an auto mechanic at Guido’s Motors International.
He is survived by five children, Siena Mathews of Boone, Danielle Hapes of Salina, KS, and Masen, Brooklynn, and Samuel Hapes of Nevada; his father, Dennis (Mary) Hapes, Sr. of Collins; his mother, Paula (Robert) Meyerhoff of Kelley; his maternal grandmother, Joan Mayfield of Maxwell; two brothers, Dennis (Kerri) Hapes of Colo, and Jeremy (Patti) Hapes of Troutman, NC; two step-brothers, Aric (Tonya) Meyerhoff of Germany, and John (Billie) Meyerhoff of Kansas City, MO; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Daniel was preceded in death by an infant son, Kaleb Hapes; his maternal grandfather, Russell Mayfield, Sr.; his paternal grandfather, William Hapes; and his paternal grandmother and her husband, Phyllis and Darwin Huffaker.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Daniel and his family.
