Constance G. Mead, age 95, of Nevada and formerly of Colo, Iowa, died Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at the Colo United Methodist Church in Colo, with Pastor Douglas Harding officiating.  Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to services.  Burial will follow in the Colo Cemetery. 

Born February 16, 1922, in Roland, Iowa, Constance Geraldine (Highland) Mead was the daughter of Thor and Ida (Olson) Highland.  She was united in marriage to Paul Earnest Mead on December 25, 1940, in Roland, Iowa.  The couple lived in the Colo area where they farmed for 46 years.  Constance was employed at Donnelley Marketing in Nevada, retiring in 1983 after 23 years of service to the company.

She enjoyed embroidery and made treasured quilts and countless tea towel sets.  Constance was known for her fantastic fried chicken and the Sunday dinners she prepared for her family each week.  She and Paul lived for their grandchildren and took great delight in their company, always sending them home with some sort of treat.

Survivors include a son, James Mead of Nevada; a daughter, Geraldine (Dwayne) Gerlach of Nevada; six grandchildren, Randy (Jacob) Gerlach of Polk City, Jackie Burk of Gilbert, Stephanie (Brian) Behm of Columbus, MN, Justin (Olivea) Mead of Des Moines, Jeffrey (Rebecah) Andersen of South Carolina, and Anna Mead Andersen of Nevada; six great-grandchildren, Morgan, Parker, Nicole, Cory, Warren, and Owen; two great-great-grandchildren, Noah and Lily; as well as nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul in 1998; a son, Jackie, in 1962; an infant grandson, Jason Mead; her parents; two sisters, Thordis Christian and Audrey Larson; and two brothers, George Highland and Olaf Highland.

Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Constance and her family.  Memorials in her memory may be directed to the United Methodist Church, 602 4th Street, Colo, IA  50056.
