Kateryna (Katie) Polanycia, 93, passed away December 10, 2018, at Sudbury Pines Elder Care in Sudbury, MA.  She will join her husband and daughter in the family plot in Nevada, IA.  Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2018.

Kateryna immigrated to the USA in December 1950, with her husband Iwan and three children.  They settled in Belfield, ND, where they raised five children.  She was a stay at home mom until 1960, when she ventured into a food service career.  Until 2005, she worked in several restaurants in the area starting as a dishwasher and elevating to a cook, favored by many.  She was a member of St. John Ukrainian Catholic Church and participated in many church activities.  Her favorite pastime was embroidering on flour sack dish towels and creating holiday crafts as well as offering homemade food treats to many friends and neighbors.  She was extremely personable and known for her wonderful sense of humor and storytelling.

Kateryna is survived by 4 children, 9 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband Iwan, and daughter Olga.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Alzheimer’s Association in your area and/or visit a local elder care facility and bring a smile to those who need a bit of comfort.

Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada, IA, has been entrusted with the care of Kateryna and her family.
