Jean Lengeling, age 92 of Collins, Iowa, died Sunday, December 1, 2013, at Green Hills Healthcare Center in Ames, Iowa.
Born February 6, 1921, in Mingo, Iowa, Roberta Jean Lengeling was the daughter of Charles Wyatt and Grace Mary (Hanson) Kimberley. Jean was united in marriage to Cyril Francis Lengeling in Des Moines, Iowa, on May 27, 1946. The couple was blessed with five children, Sue, David, Paul, Martha, and John.
Jean served in WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service), a division of the United States Navy, during World War II from March 28, 1944 to February 1, 1946. She was a past president and active lifetime member of the Community Historical Society in Maxwell and belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary. Jean also was very active in Story County 4-H. Her family was especially important to her and brought much joy into her life.
Survivors include five children, Sue (Tom) Lomp of Ankeny, David Lengeling of Ft. Wayne, IN, Paul (Laura) Lengeling of Collins, Martha (Manuel Sanchez) Lengeling of Guanajuato, Mexico, and John (Tracy) Lengeling of Collins; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Cyril in 2007; a grandson, Zachary Lengeling; and two brothers, George Kimberley and Dick Kimberley.
The family received friends at Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada, Iowa, on Saturday from 3-5 p.m. Condolences may be sent online to chetryanmortuary.com.
