Glen "Shorty" Eyanson, age 78, of Nevada, Iowa, died Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.
Graveside memorial services were 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014, at Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada, Iowa, with military honors by William F. Ball Post No. 48 of the American Legion. Condolences may be sent online to chetryanmortuary.com.
Born December 1, 1935, in Nevada, Iowa, Glen "Shorty" Eyanson was the son of Joseph and Virgil (Young) Eyanson. He grew up and received his education in Nevada, then served in the United States Marine Corps for several years. Shorty lived and worked in Nevada his entire life, and was employed in various capacities over the years. He loved gardening and took special pride in canning his home-grown tomato juice. In earlier years he enjoyed playing his guitar.
On July 14, 1978, Shorty was united in marriage to Gloria Banner at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria; three children, Virginia "Ginny" Settle, Dawn Kelton, and Dallas (Cris) Eyanson, all of Nevada; two step-children, Pam (Mark) Bugely, and Raymond (Leora) Jarnagin, all of Nevada; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Craig Settle; three sisters, JoAnn Lewis, Kathleen Eyanson, and Mary Lou Eyanson; and five brothers, Leo, Thomas, Richard, Donald, and Jimmy Eyanson.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada was entrusted with the care of Shorty and his family.
