Robert Oxley, age 87, of Nevada, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2014, at Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada with Vicar Mary Wiggins officiating. Visitation was one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial was in Evergreen Memory Gardens, Nevada.
Robert Wayne Oxley was born April 7, 1926, in Story County, Iowa, the son of Orville and Neoma (Ferguson) Oxley. He was united in marriage to Iva Pauley on September 23, 1950, and was blessed with five children.
Bob was an honest, friendly, and hard-working man who knew no strangers. He was family-oriented and always ready to give advice and a helping hand to anyone. His family was especially important to him and he played an active role in all their lives, attending countless sporting and other events. He was dedicated to his wife, Iva, and treasured her like no other.
Bob worked in road maintenance for Story County for over 35 years. In earlier years, he farmed and drove truck.
Survivors include four children, Sharon (Gary) Harp of Sheridan, AR, Linda Kingsbury and fiancé Michael Mellows, Mark
(Tammy) Oxley, and Steven (Barb) Oxley, all of Nevada; a daughter-in-law, Jolene Oxley and fiancé Barry Stouwie of Nevada; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Ronald (Barb) Oxley and Arlene Neuman, both of Minnesota; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his wife Iva in 2012; a son, Michael Oxley; his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada was entrusted with the care of Bob and his family.
