Edith Rasmusson, age 97, of Nevada, Iowa, died Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada.
Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada, with The Reverend Chris Waddle officiating. Burial was in Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Visitation was held on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada.
Born December 22, 1916, in Story County, Iowa, Edith Maxine Rasmusson was the daughter of Hans and Hazel (Gibson) Hanson. She attended a one-room school house as a child and graduated from Story City High School in 1934. Edith cleaned area homes before her marriage to Jeffery Herman Rasmusson on February 15, 1939. The couple made their home six miles north of Nevada in Milford Township where they farmed for many years.
Edith was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church in Roland for most of her life. She joined the First United Methodist Church in Nevada after retiring to Nevada in the late '70's. In earlier years, Edith served as a 4-H leader and enjoyed membership in the Happy Hour Club. Her hobbies included baking for family and friends and quilting with her church group. Following Jeffery's death in 2005, Edith lived at Timberland Village in Story City. In April of 2009, she became a resident of Story County Senior Care in Nevada.
Survivors include four children, Janet (Dennis) Larson of Laurens, Ronald Rasmusson of Glendale, AZ, Marcia (Walt) Neighbour of Ankeny, and Beth (Curt) McKim of Slater; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Clifford (Shirley) Hanson of Webster City.
In addition to her husband, Edith was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Virginia Hanson; and a brother, Clinton Hanson.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada was entrusted with the care of Edith and her family.
