Ruby McKim, age 86, of Nevada, Iowa, died Friday, May 16, 2014, at Story Medical Senior Care in Nevada.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada, with Pastor Chris Waddle officiating. Visitation was held at Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada on Monday from 5-7 p.m.
Ruby LaVonne McKim was born on the family farm near Harlan, Iowa, on July 1, 1927, to Elmon Jeppe and Clara (Olsen) Christensen. She lived in various places throughout her childhood and graduated from Hastings (Nebraska) High School.
On December 6, 1946, Ruby was united in marriage to Robert McKim in Des Moines. The couple settled in Nevada and was blessed with three children, Paula, Curt, and Kelly.
Ruby worked at Donnelley's in Nevada and in later years was a CNA at Rolling Green Village. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed church activities, socializing, and traveling in her free time. Ruby was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed following the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes.
She is survived by her three children, Paula (Steve) Hohn of Nevada, Curt (Beth) McKim of Slater, and Kelly (Al) Perkins of Des Moines; seven grandchildren, Jason Hohn (Patty Van Meter), Andy (Sara) Hohn, Chris McKim, Dan (Liz) McKim, Michelle (Nick) Pietz, Sarah (Aaron) Gebauer, and Jocelyn Perkins; three great-grandchildren, Malaki, Leyla, and Tinsley; a sister, Frances Ostermann of Buffalo Center; a sister-in-law, Vi McKim of Nevada; as well as nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband in 1983; her parents; her step-father, Glen Barkman; her parents-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.
