Josephine Bernice Heintz, age 87, of Nevada, Iowa, passed away and went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, August 20, 2014. She was a resident of Rolling Green Village in Nevada.
Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday August 25, 2014, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Pastor Myron Herzberg will officiate, with burial in Nevada Municipal Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the church on Sunday from 2-4 p.m.
Born December 4, 1926, on her grandparents’ farm in Story County, Iowa, Josephine Bernice (Anderson) Heintz was the daughter of Amos and Stella (Sampson) Anderson. She graduated from Fernald Consolidated High School in 1944, then attended nurses training in Des Moines.
On April 25, 1946, Josephine and Joseph Dale Heintz were united in marriage, and began their life together in the Nevada area, farming and raising their family.
In addition to raising a family and helping her husband on the farm, Josephine also worked several years as a Nurse’s Aid at the Story County Hospital. She was a very compassionate person with a large and generous heart. Her career also included 20 years working as a Quality Control Supervisor for the 3M Company in Ames, Iowa. Josephine was very active in the Memorial Lutheran Church and was also a Patient Advocate with Rolling Green Village. Her energy, positive attitude, and her caring for others will be a part of her legacy forever. She will be dearly missed by her family, neighbors, and the many friends that knew her.
Survivors include four sons, Stephen (Delores) Heintz of Carrollton, TX, Dan (Judy) Heintz, Lynn (LuAnn) Heintz, and Gary (Donna Bairey) Heintz, all of Nevada; and a daughter-in-law, Cyndie Heintz of Nevada. Josephine and Joseph’s legacy also includes 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Allen (Gloria) Anderson of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Mary Jean (Ted) Mueller of Redwing, MN, and Ruth (Jack) Perkins of Iowa City; a sister-in-law, Lola Anderson of Nevada; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joseph Dale on November 18, 2013; a son, Bruce Heintz on September 9, 2004; and a brother, Marley Anderson.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Josephine and her family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Memorial Lutheran Church of Nevada.
