Born September 24, 1927, in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, LaWanda Jeanne Foster was the daughter of Thelma (Lynn) Gracey. She grew up and was educated in Pennsylvania, and, on June 22, 1947, married Lee S. Foster in Huntingdon. The couple was blessed with two children, Jeff and Sharon.
LaWanda worked as a secretary for Blair Corporation in Huntingdon for several years, and later was employed by the Huntingdon School District. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Huntingdon. Her many hobbies included playing cards, sewing, reading, gardening, cooking, knitting, quilting, and traveling. Her family, however, was her greatest joy. In 2009, LaWanda’s ailing health prompted her to make her home with her daughter, Sharon, in Nevada, Iowa. Sharon cared for her mother faithfully until the time of her death.
Survivors include two children, Jeff and wife Sheryl Foster, and Sharon Foster, all of Nevada; two grandchildren, Ronald Foster and Hayden Foster, both of Nevada; and a sister, Joanne and husband James Rudy of Lewistown, PA.
LaWanda was preceded in death by her husband in 2002; her parents; and a sister, Marcelene Gracey.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the local care of LaWanda and her family. In lieu of flowers, donations in LaWanda’s name may be made to the Huntingdon County Humane Society, 11371 School House Hollow Rd., Huntingdon, PA 16652.
