William A. Sparks, age 82, of Nevada and formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Saturday, November 1, 2014, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada on Saturday, November 15, 2014, from 2-4 p.m.
William Arthur Sparks was born September 18, 1932, in Prairie City, Iowa, the son of Howard E. and Theola Faye (Slater) Sparks. He grew up and received his education in Colo. Over the years, William lived in various Iowa towns, eventually settling in Bettendorf. Most recently, he made his home with his son Mike in Nevada.
William enjoyed woodworking and was an avid Chicago White Sox baseball fan.
Survivors include his children, Michael (Cindy) Sparks of Nevada, Deb (Kelly) Haws of Nevada, William (Lisa) Thomson, Jr. of Nashville, TN, James Sparks of California, Vicki Sparks of Washington, Scott Sparks of Enid, OK, Daryn Sparks of Fayetteville, AK, and Lynn (Deanna) Fruitland Park, FL; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Arlene) Sparks of Milan, MO, Phillip (Linda) Sparks of Fort Dodge, Richard (Vickie) Sparks of Tomah, WI, Ray (Annette) Sparks of Sevierville, TN, and Jack Sparks of Hutto, TX; sisters, Donna Sparks of Ames, Dolores (Tunney) Strozewski of Pleasant Hill, and Dinah Sparks of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Larry (Sparks) Ruan, and Richard in infancy; six brothers, Donald, Raymond, Leroy, Charles, Glenn, and Terry Sparks; and a sister, Shirley McIntosh.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of William and his family.
