Memorial visitation will be held from 4-5 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014, at Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada. Burial will be in Colo Cemetery.
Born January 16, 1933, in Adair, Iowa, Ralph Henry Avey was the son of William H. and Ruth M. (Putney) Avey. He grew up and received his education in the Adair area, then served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Ralph worked various jobs over the years, including at the pork plant in Perry. He loved watching westerns, especially John Wayne movies.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Nevada; four children, Diana Leinen of Des Moines, LoriAnn Avey, William Avey, and Kevin Avey, all of Colfax; five step-children; a grandson, Bronson; as well as many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Larry, and a brother in infancy; a sister, Violet, and a sister in infancy.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Ralph and his family.
