Charlotte Jean Starbuck, age 85, of Nevada, died at her home on Tuesday, December 23, 2014.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 26, 2014, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, with Pastor Myron Herzberg officiating.  Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the church on Friday one hour prior to services.

Born March 1, 1929, in Nevada, Iowa, Charlotte Jean (McAtee) Starbuck was the daughter of Arlo Emerson and Bessie Marie (Larsen) McAtee.  She graduated from Nevada High School in 1947, and was united in marriage to Darrell Dayton Starbuck on August 29, 1948, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.

Jean was employed at Donnelley Marketing in Nevada for several years.  In 1956, she and Darrell opened Starbuck’s Drive-In, which became a mainstay of the Nevada business community for over 40 years.  They retired to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and returned to Story County in 1996.

Jean was a faithful member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.  Mostly, she loved her family and all the happy times they enjoyed together.  She liked to travel and appreciated visits from the kids while in Arkansas.  She will be remembered as a caring and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include daughter, Kathie (Phil) Kuhns of Nevada and their two daughters, Dena (Adam) Blazek and Heather (Toby) McCarter; son, Douglas (Helen) Starbuck of Nevada and their children Tony, Megan, and Charlie Starbuck; son, Bradley (Rhonda) Starbuck of Ames and their son Arlo (Teresa) Starbuck; and daughter, Linda Bishop of Colo and her daughter, Molly Bishop; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy Rasmussen of Grand Island, NE; a sister-in-law, Joyce Stenson of Marshalltown; as well as many other extended family members and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Darrell in 2009; her son, Dayton Darrell Starbuck; three sisters, Veletta Poush, Beverley Boyd, and Nancy Haas; and a brother, Darrell McAtee.

Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Jean and her family.

“I was so sorry to learn that my mother's dear friend, Jean Starbuck, had passed. I cannot explain it, but Mrs. Starbuck made this visiting Illinois Bean family feel utterly welcomed in her home and loved! It was as if she were our Iowa mom! I know my mom loved Jean and her husband Darrell, and our family looked forward to seeing them and all their children when we would visit in the summer. Thank you, Jean! God's peace to you and your entire family. Fondly, Barbara (Bean) Marchi”

“Jean was a loving, caring Aunt and we loved her to pieces, She had a big heart, just like all the Starbucks, and raised up five awesome children who gave her beautiful grandchildren. She worked hard, and loved deeply and we are going to miss her smiles and hugs. Our love goes with her, until we meet again...
