Glen Presnall, age 93, of Nevada and formerly of Colo, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at Windsor Manor in Nevada.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Colo, with Pastors Lewis S. Flanigan and Dave Heisterkamp officiating. Burial will follow in the Colo Cemetery, with military honors by the American Legion. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 5-7 p.m.
Born February 27, 1921, in Cambridge, Iowa, Glen Verner Presnall was the second youngest of nine children born to Vern and Elizabeth (Bryce) Presnall. He grew up in Cambridge, graduating from Cambridge High School in 1938, then served in the United States Army during World War II.
On September 21, 1947, Glen was united in marriage to Mary Wilson at her parents’ home in Colo, Iowa. The couple was blessed with five children: Craig, Barb, Denny, Gary, and Sheryl.
Glen purchased the grocery store in Colo with his two brothers-in-law, Raymond and Richard Wilson, and eventually became sole owner of P & W Grocery. He and Mary operated the store until it was destroyed by fire in 1976. Glen worked at Sunstrand (currently Danfoss) in Ames until retiring in 1993.
Glen was a member of the United Methodist Church in Colo where he sang in the choir for many years. He also was a member of the American Legion, Lions Club, and the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed refinishing and reupholstering furniture in his spare time, and loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting and other events.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; five children, Craig (Cathy) Presnall of Ankeny, Barb (Larry) Henson of Bettendorf, Denny (Bev) Presnall of Ankeny, Gary (Sharon) Presnall of Polk City, and Sheryl (Quentin) Mills of Bondurant; 13 grandchildren, Chris (Bobbi) Presnall, Curt (Hollie) Presnall, Mike (Amy) Henson, Steve (Kristina) Henson, Tiffany (Logan) McEwan, Casey (Shawna) Presnall, Brian Presnall, Sean Presnall, Katie (Jeremy) Hall, Reese Presnall, Elizabeth Presnall, Nathan Mills, and Lexie Mills; 19 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and seven sisters.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Glen and his family.
