Darlene Allen, age 93, formerly of Nevada, died Wednesday, January 7, 2015, in the hospice wing of St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, with Pastor Myron Herzberg officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m.
Darlene Frances Allen was the daughter of Frank H. and Leila (Menzel) Boelk. She was born April 29, 1921, on a farm near Fernald, Iowa. She attended school at Fernald, graduating in 1938.
She was united in marriage to William C. Allen on June 9, 1940, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. To this union two sons were born, John and Randy.
Darlene was employed by Donnelley Marketing of Nevada until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church, Mary Circle, as well as prayer coffee and numerous bridge clubs.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987, and her parents.
Survivors include her sons, John (Linda) Allen of Colorado Springs, CO, and Randy (Kimberly) Allen of Woodbury, MN; grandchildren, Lisa (Matt) Fisher, Shelby Allen, and Brady Allen; and great-grandsons, Cody and Wyatt Fisher.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Darlene's name may be directed to Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, IA, or to St. Luke's Hospice, 915 East 1st Street, in Duluth, MN 55802.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Darlene and her family.
