Larry Patterson, 81, of Mesa, AZ, and formerly of Collins and Pleasant Hill, Iowa, died January 27, 2015, in Mesa, AZ.
Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada. Vicar Nat Bothwell will officiate, with burial to follow in Collins Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to services. Military honors will be conducted by Freland Carver Post #81 of the American Legion.
Born May 15, 1933, in Collins, Iowa, Larry Lee Patterson was the son of John Walter and Velma (Jones) Patterson. He grew up and received his education in Collins, graduating from Collins High School in 1951. Larry served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-54, then returned to Iowa where he was employed for over 30 years at Armstrong Tire Company in Des Moines.
Larry was united in marriage to Beverly Cable on July 29, 1956, in Des Moines. The couple settled in Pleasant Hill, where they raised their family of four sons: Ronald, Clifford, Marvin, and Larry. Larry enjoyed golfing, square dancing, and visiting with friends. He and Beverly wintered in Mesa for several years before moving there permanently in 2003.
Survivors include four sons, Ronald Patterson of Des Moines, Clifford Patterson of West Des Moines, Marvin (Mary) Patterson of Pleasant Hill, and Larry (Don Fleming) Patterson of Pleasant Hill; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Jenny) Patterson of Collins; a half-sister, Pattie Lundquist of Omaha, NE; and other extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2008; his parents; and a brother, Merle Patterson.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Larry and his family.
