(LoriDee) Coughenour, Amanda (Trevor) Sharp, and Michelle Pierce; his longtime companion, Elaine Shaw and her children, Debbie (Bobby) Chiri of Madrid, Cindy (Tim) Lawlor of Nevada, and Curt Chapman of Washington State, and her grandchildren, Michelle (Rich) and McKenna.  He is also survived by a sister, Anita (Loren) Kuiper of Pella; a brother, Donnie Pierce of DeSoto; the NHS Class of 1956; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dorothy Pierce; and brothers, Steve Pierce, Jack Pierce, and Keith in infancy.

“Appreciate Bill Koeder keeping us in touch with our classmates even when there is sad news of another loss. Glad we had a chance to be with John and hear him speak at the 50th high school reunion brunch.
It was fun growing up with John and Don in Nevada, and I am pleased to learn what a strong community leader he was as well as a terrific grandparent so he will be long remembered.

“To the Family of John Pierce:
On behalf of the entire Madrid community, I want to offer our condolences to you for your loss. John was a monumental man in our community and did such wonderful things here. I personally worked with John in a variety of capacities and could not have asked for anyone better to have spent time with in that regard. Please find comfort (and pride) in knowing how respected and appreciated he was in Madrid. He will never be replaced, but I hope we find someone new in the community that shares his love of Madrid to help us carry on. - My sympathies, Todd D. Kilzer, Madrid City Administrator/Clerk”

“I am so sorry to hear about John. I worked with him at the DOT for several years and really missed him when he retired. I didn't get to see him very often after he retired but when I did he always brought a smile to my face. He was a wonderful and sweet man and will be missed by many.”
