Mildred McIntosh, age 89, of Maxwell, died Friday, April 17, 2015, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at the Christian Church in Maxwell. Pastor Tom Lee will officiate, with burial to follow in the Maxwell Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Maxwell Community Center on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, from 5-7 p.m.
Born October 26, 1925, in State Center, Iowa, Mildred Katheryn McIntosh was the daughter of Paul and Grace (Cowan) Smith. She graduated from Maxwell High School in 1943, then attended beauty school and opened her own beauty shop in Maxwell. On May 13, 1963, she married Dale Richard McIntosh at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
In earlier years, Mildred helped with the Girl Scouts and played on the Maxwell softball team. She was active in the community and volunteered much of her time serving at the Community Historical Society and the American Legion Auxiliary. Mildred was artistic and enjoyed making ceramic dolls and other projects, many of which she gifted to family and friends. Music played a big role in her life and Mildred especially enjoyed get-togethers with her family to play the piano and share musical talents.
Survivors include her husband, Dale; four brothers, Robert Smith of Rhodes, Eldon (Carol) Smith of Gresham, OR, Clyde (Carol) Smith of Independence, and Everett (Gail) Smith of Maxwell; three sisters, Anna Tyler of Maxwell, Pauline Perin of Rhodes, and Lois (Kenneth) Westercamp of Bloomfield; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Earl Smith and Jim Smith; and three sisters, Ethel Nady, Dorothy Smith, and Mary Lou in infancy.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Mildred and her family.
