Dixie Brekke, age 81, of Nevada, died Monday, September 21, 2015, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2015, at the First Christian Church in Nevada, with Pastor David R. Burling officiating.  Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to services. 

Born July 31, 1934, in Story County, Iowa, Dixie Lee Brekke was the daughter of Ray and Ruth (Patten) Taylor.  She grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1952. 

On December 28, 1952, she was united in marriage to Marion Brekke.  Two children, Steve and Teri, were born to this union. 

Dixie worked at the Farm & Home Store in Nevada for over 30 years, retiring in 2001.  She will be remembered for her great sense of humor and fun-loving nature.  She was a jokester who loved people and socializing and never met a stranger.

Survivors include her children, Steve Brekke of Ames, and Teri Raske of Nevada; two grandchildren, Sara Brekke and Tyler Leslie, both of Nevada; three great-grandchildren, Alex and Ally Anderson, and Trenton Leslie; her brothers-in-law, Robert (Elly) Brekke of California, and Paul Brekke of New Mexico; her sisters-in-law, Thelma (Gene) Derfler of Oregon, and Nancy Taylor of Utah; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband Marion in 1998; her parents; a brother, Jerry Taylor; and her son-in-law, Ray Raske.

Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Dixie and her family.

“Terri and Steve,
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. She was a wonderful person. She brought great joy to all of us at the store and of course to all the customers too. I'll never forget one day when she answered the phone and had a 10 or 15 minute conversation. When I asked her who that was she said it was a wrong number. She never knew a stranger.

“Dixie was very cheerful person who always put a smile on your face. I took care of her at rolling green and she was my favorite no matter how bad of a day I was having all I had to do was walk in her room and she would always give me this look that made my day. She will be missed my many! And is loved by many!
