“I had the pleasure of doing Lola's hair when I had my salon in Collins. She was a wonderful person and always enjoyed our conversations and my time spent with her. Thoughts and prayers for the whole family. ”

“Karmen Miller - I just want you to know that it was Lola Dodd Whitaker that passed away, children are Barry, Debbie and Sandy. Jerry, Craig and Joyce are the children of Zola and Paul Whitaker who both have passed on. Lola Dodd was married to Paul Whitaker years after the deaths of our father and of Zola. Thus, understandably this can be very confusing!

“Family of Lola Dodd-Whitaker,
My deepest and heartfelt sympathies with the passing of your mother, Lola. She was a special person and I have long lasting and fond memories of her from years past while visiting my grandparents, James and Nelle Jane Oswalt, and my uncle and aunt, Floyd and Ada Oswalt, who resided near Collins and Colo, Iowa. More recently, we kept in touch with each other via e-mail or visiting with her at Oswalt reunions when held. May Lola rest in eternal peace and be with all of her deceased family members, other relatives, and friends from above in heaven. Peace, love, and God’s blessings to all family members.

“Sandy, Deb and Barry. We are so sorry at the loss of your mom. She fought long and hard and was blessed to have you all stand by her. We know it will be hard, no matter what, but she lived a good life and fought a good fight. Now she can rest in peace. We aren't coming to the funeral as I'm sure Terry and Sheila will want to spend as much time with you all as possible, but you definitely will be in our thoughts and prayers. So happy that they were able to come up for her funeral. Look to Jesus in your hard times as he's the only one who can give you peace.”

“Dear Aunt Lola - there aren't enough words to describe how much I already miss you. I miss being able to send you cards and notes, I miss picking out the perfect postcard to send you from my vacation, I miss being able to make plans and set a date to see you when we get to Iowa. I miss singing with you and oh the laughter, we certainly had fun. I have great memories of time spent at your house and driving down the road with the windows wide open singing as loud as we could. You were my Aunt but you were also my friend. I love you and will miss you.
Debbie, Sandy and Barry I am so sorry for your loss, she was a great lady and I know how much you will miss her, how much the grandchildren will miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you and your families. We love you!”

“Your family will not necessarily remember me. I am Carol Oswalt Dunn's sister, Cheryl and my mother was Bonnie Mills Oswalt Hunnell. I am sorry to hear about the passing of Lola, but I know that she is at peace and with God. Carol talked frequently about her, and has many fond, loving memories of the times she was able to spend with the family of her father, William Oswalt. Having lost our mother, Bonnie, three years ago, I know that even as you are comforted that she is in a better place, there is still sorrow and grief. I try to get to Collins every few months to visit the cemetery for my mother, Bill and baby Darryl. When we have time, and weather permitting, we try to walk around and remember other names of those lost to us here on earth. We will include Lola and your family in our prayers and remembrance.
