Wilma Oxley, age 82, of Nevada, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at the First Christian Church in Nevada, with Pastor Anjeanette Perkins officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Memorial visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to services.
Born March 24, 1933, in Story County, Iowa, Wilma Jean Oxley was the daughter of Henry and Ione (Trout) Wax. She grew up in Maxwell and was baptized at the Maxwell Church of Christ on April 16, 1944. Following her graduation from high school in 1952, Wilma attended cosmetology school. On June 5, 1954, she was united in marriage to Howard Ray Oxley. The couple settled in Nevada and was blessed with five children.
Wilma enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook and sew, work crossword puzzles, play Bingo, and watch old western movies, with John Wayne being her favorite.
Survivors include four children, Jean Ann Shaw of Boone, Eugene “Butch” (Cindy) Oxley of Nevada, Joy (John) Page of Nevada, and Bruce (Julie) Oxley of Nevada; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2010; a son, Howard Owen Oxley; her parents; and three sisters, Mary Vansice, Emma Smith, and Adeline Bishop.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Wilma and her family.
